Organize a Session

We have opportunities for every attendee to get involved and organize a session at Cell Bio. There are four types of sessions we accept applications for organizers:

  • Minisymposia - Co-Chair Application Deadline: April 27
  • Special Interest Subgroups - Organizer Application Deadline: May 2
  • Education, Professional Development, Diversity, and Inclusion Sessions - Organizer Application Deadline: May 13
  • Roundtable Discussions - Table Leader Application Period: early June to mid-October

Current Opportunities

Roundtable Discussions

Accepting Table Leader Applications - Deadline: October 11

Roundtable discussions are organized by any meeting attendee. These discussions are focused on topics of interest in science, education, career and mentoring, and the climate and culture of science. These sessions are held during lunchtime for attendees to connect and potentially collaborate with like-minded peers.

Table leaders are responsible for:

  • establishing a session title and description
  • facilitating the discussion on the day of and engaging with attendees
  • promoting your roundtable session and encouraging other attendees to participate

Eligibility: All Cell Bio 2022 registrants

Minisymposia

Co-Chair Applications - Deadline: April 27

Minisymposia sessions are comprised of the top-scoring abstracts submitted within each of the seven scientific meeting tracks. There are 28 total scientific Minisymposia and one (1) Education Minisymposium. A minimum of four (4) and a maximum of ten (10) co-chairs will be selected per track with two (2) co-chairs per session.

Minisymposia co-chairs are responsible for:

  • scoring submitted abstracts
  • selecting talks for sessions from top-scoring abstracts
  • facilitating the session on the day of

Eligibility:

  • Early, mid-, and late career researchers who are willing to join the ASCB if selected to serve as a co-chair. You do not need to be an ASCB member to apply, but will be required to join if you are selected.
  • ASCB Regular and Educator Members, EMBO Members, EMBO Global Investigators, and EMBO Young Investigators

Note: members actively engaged in a postdoctoral training program are not eligible.

Special Interest Subgroups

Organizer and Session Proposals - Deadline: May 2

Subgroup sessions are organized by ASCB members and comprised of abstracts submitted to each accepted Subgroup title. There are 27 total Subgroups. These sessions are scientific with a focus on a singular topic. Session proposals are accepted based on relevancy and timeliness of the session topic. The number of Subgroup organizers varies, but it is strongly recommended no more than six (6) organizers. Sessions are 2.5 hours in length.

Subgroup organizers are responsible for:

  • establishing a session title and description
  • selecting talks for sessions from submitted abstracts
  • determining the number of talks, order of talks, and duration of talks and Q&A within the 2.5 hour timeframe

Eligibility: All ASCB members (all career levels encouraged to apply)

Education, Professional Development, Diversity, and Inclusion (EPDI)

Organizer and Session Proposals - Deadline: May 13

EPDI sessions are organized by ASCB members, EMBO community members, or non-ASCB/EMBO non-profit organizations. These sessions focus on topics related to the scientific enterprise such as education, career development, international relations, science policy, communications, and diversity in the workforce. Session proposals are accepted based on relevancy and timeliness of the session topic. Sessions lengths varies from 45 minutes to 90 minutes.

Session organizers are responsible for:

  • establishing a session title, description, and learning objectives
  • inviting speakers to participate
  • determining the structure of the session (i.e. number and order of talks, panel discussion, networking component, etc.)

Eligibility:

  • All ASCB members and EMBO community members
  • Non-ASCB/EMBO non-profit organizations
