Minisymposia Talks are 10-12 minutes with a 3-5 minute Q&A (15 minutes total per speaker). Each minisymposium is 1.5 hours long and contains six talks. Talks are both pre-recorded by the speakers and uploaded in November and presented live at the meeting. A live Q&A will follow each talk at the in-person meeting. The pre-recorded talks will be used in case an attendee is unable to present live at the meeting. The pre-recorded talks will be available on demand for registered attendees until the end of January 2023.

There are 28 scientific Minisymposia and one Education Minisymposium. Specific Minisymposia titles will be determined in September after all abstracts are submitted and reviewed, and sessions are formed. Minisymposia will be driven by the abstracts received under the seven scientific meeting tracks and the education track. Seven scientific Minisymposia will run concurrently in each designated time slot. The  Minisymposia are on Sunday, December 4, and Tuesday, December 6, from 3:40 pm to 5:10 pm and 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm. The Education Minisymposium is on December 4 from 3:40 pm to 5:10 pm.

Abstracts submitted for Minisymposia consideration will go through concealed (author information hidden) scoring by the co-chairs for the primary track you choose. Those same reviewers may decide to re-assign your abstract to your secondary track, if you select one.

There are eight Symposia sessions, with two concurrent each morning on Sunday, December 4, Monday, December 5, Tuesday, December 6, and Wednesday, December 7. Accompanying two invited speakers, two Trainees (postdoctoral researchers/fellows or graduate students) will also be selected to present Talks. The Trainee Talks are 15 minutes with a 5-minute Q&A.

The highest top-scoring abstracts submitted by postdoctoral researchers/fellows or graduate students to the Symposium Topics will be considered for Trainee Talks before being considered for Subgroup or Minisymposia talks.

If you are selected to be a speaker in a Symposia, you will receive a small travel stipend. Those located in North America will receive $500 towards travel. Those traveling from outside of North America will receive $1,000 toward travel.

Abstract submission is required for all talks in a Special Interest Subgroup session. Subgroup organizers will have the opportunity to read through all abstracts submitted to their topic to allow them to design their sessions with the most cutting edge research available.

Subgroup talks vary in length as determined by the organizer(s). All speakers in Subgroup sessions will pre-record and upload their talk in November, and present live at the meeting. Microsymposia talks are Poster Teasers. Each talk is a 5-minute to 4-minute overview of the presenter’s poster without Q&A. Each Microsymposium session will include 10 Poster Teasers selected from top-scoring abstracts in each scientific track. All Microsymposia speakers must also present a poster.

There will be 21 Microsymposia sessions at the meeting. Seven concurrent Microsymposia will be presented on each day (one per scientific track) prior to the poster presentations from 11:15 am to 12:05 pm.

Submit an abstract by the following three deadlines to present a poster:

• Tuesday, August 2, at 9:00 pm EDT
• Thursday, September 1, at 9:00 pm EDT
• Tuesday, October 11, at 9:00 pm EDT (this final deadline has a higher abstract fee).

Posters are displayed throughout the meeting, beginning Saturday evening through Tuesday afternoon. Posters are on display from the evening before the actual poster session until the afternoon after the session. Poster presentations occur between 12:30 pm and 3:30 pm Sunday through Tuesday in the Exhibit Hall. Poster sessions are each 90 minutes, one from 12:30-2:00 pm and one from 2:00-3:30 pm.

Abstract submitters will be accepted to give a poster presentation as long as their abstracts present data, show that research has occurred, and they are not commercial in nature.

Waivers for Scholarship of Diversity Poster Topic

Abstract fees will be waived for submissions to the Scholarship of Diversity poster topic. This poster topic covers the impact of diversity on research quality and productivity; evidence-based approaches to improve recruitment and retention in the biomedical research workforce; individual and institutional barriers to workforce diversity; and scaling and dissemination of strategies for eliminating barriers to career transitions.
