Abstract-Based Presentation Options

There are four abstract-based presentation format options for the 2019 ASCB | EMBO Meeting:

Minisymposium Talk (12 min talk + 3 min Q&A)
Microsymposium Talk (7 min talk + 3 min Q&A)
Special Interest Subgroup Talk (Length determined by organizer)
Poster Presentation

You must submit by the first abstract deadline, August 1, to be considered for a Subgroup, Minisymposium Talk or Microsymposium Talk.

Minisymposium Talk Microsymposia Talk Subgroup Talk Poster Presentation

Minisymposium Talk

Minisymposia Talks are 12 minutes with a 3-minute Q&A (15 minutes total per speaker). Each minisymposia will have a 5-minute introduction followed by 10 talks.

There will be 22 Minisymposia under 5 umbrella topics each with subtopics. Minisymposia titles will be determined in late August or early September after all abstracts are submitted and reviewed. Minisymposia will be driven by the abstracts received. Six to 7 Minisymposia run concurrently Sunday-Tuesday afternoon (4:15-6:50 pm), and Wednesday morning (8:30-11:05 am).

Microsymposia Talk

Microsymposia talks are 7 minutes with a 3 minute Q&A (10 minutes total). Each Microsymposia will have a 6 speakers selected from abstracts.

18 Microsymposia will be generated from abstracts not selected for Minisymposia who indicate they wish to be considered for this format. Microsymposia topics are directly correlated to the number of abstracts received for each of the topics. Not all topics will necessarily have a Microsymposia session assigned since this is based on the number of abstracts submitted to the topics.

Six concurrent Microsymposia will be presented on Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday from 11:00 am-12:00 pm.

Subgroup Talk

New this year- All talks in a Special Interest Subgroup session will require an abstract submission. Organizers will have the opportunity to read through all abstracts submitted to their topic to allow them to design their sessions with the most cutting edge research available.

Subgroup talks will vary in length because it is determined by the organizer(s).

Poster Presentation

You can submit by the following three deadlines to present a poster:

Thursday, August 1, at 9:00 pm EDT (deadline for expedited review for Visa-related purposes)
Tuesday, September 3, at 9:00 pm EDT
Tuesday, October 8, at 9:00 pm EDT (this final deadline has a higher fee).

Posters are displayed throughout the meeting, beginning Saturday evening through Tuesday afternoon. Posters are on display from the evening before the poster session until the afternoon after the session. Poster presentations occur between 12:00 pm and 3:00 pm Sunday through Tuesday in the Learning Center (Exhibit Hall). Poster sessions are each 90 minutes, one from 12:00-1:30 pm and one from 1:30-3:00 pm.

Abstract submitters will be accepted to give a poster presentation as long as their abstracts present data, show that research has occurred, and they are not commercial in nature.
