Organize a Session

We have opportunities for every attendee to get involved and organize a session at Cell Bio 2023. There are four types of sessions we accept applications for organizers:

  • Minisymposia - Co-Chair Application Deadline: April 20
  • Special Interest Subgroups - Session Proposal Deadline: April 20
  • Sponsored Sessions - Session Proposal Deadline: Accepted on a rolling basis through June 30.
  • Roundtable Discussions - Topic Proposal Period: early June to October 10

Current Opportunities

Roundtable Discussions

Accepting Table Leader Applications - Deadline: October 10

Roundtable discussions are organized by any meeting attendee. These discussions are focused on topics of interest in science, education, career and mentoring, and the climate and culture of science. These sessions are held during lunchtime for attendees to connect and potentially collaborate with like-minded peers.

Table leaders are responsible for:

  • establishing a session title and description
  • facilitating the discussion on the day of and engaging with attendees
  • promoting your roundtable session and encouraging other attendees to participate

Eligibility: All Cell Bio 2023 registrants

Special Interest Subgroups

Accepting Organizer and Session Proposals - Deadline: April 20

Subgroup sessions are organized by ASCB members and comprised of abstracts submitted to each accepted Subgroup title. There are 28 total Subgroups. These sessions are scientific with a focus on a singular topic. Session proposals are accepted based on relevancy and timeliness of the session topic. The number of Subgroup organizers varies, but it is strongly recommended no more than six (6) organizers. New this year - Sessions will vary from 90 minutes or 150 minutes in length.

Subgroup organizers are responsible for:

  • establishing a session title and description
  • selecting talks for sessions from submitted abstracts
  • determining the number of talks, order of talks, and duration of talks and Q&A within the assigned session duration (90 or 150 minutes)

Eligibility: All ASCB members (all career levels encouraged to apply)

Sponsored Sessions

Accepting Session Proposals - Deadline: Accepted on a rolling basis through June 30

Sponsored sessions are organized by anyone ASCB members, EMBO community members, or non-ASCB/EMBO non-profit organizations. These sessions may be scientific in nature or focus on topics related to the scientific enterprise such as education, career development, international relations, science policy, communications, and diversity in the workforce. Session proposals are accepted based on relevancy and timeliness of the session topic. Sessions lengths varies from 45 minutes to 90 minutes.

Session organizers are responsible for:

  • establishing a session title, description, and learning objectives
  • inviting speakers to participate
  • determining the structure of the session (i.e. number and order of talks, panel discussion, networking component, etc.)
  • funding the session (Basic costs includes A/V and room rental. Additional costs include catering, speaker/organizer travel and registration expenses, etc.)

Eligibility:

  • Open to all (may include all ASCB members, EMBO community members, and non-ASCB/EMBO non-profit organizations)
  •  Must secure funding to host the session
