2022 James W. Freston Single Topic Conference: Gastrointestinal Organoids and Engineered Organ Systems

The 2022 James W. Freston Single Topic conference will bring together experts in GI organ cell and developmental biology and disease pathophysiology, along with leading bioengineers and tissue-chip developers to enhance the use of innovative human cell and tissue culture platforms and foster their broad and rapid adoption by the research community. The 2022 Freston Conference will explore how recent advances in the primary cell culture of stem cells from human GI organs synergizes with innovative, engineered platforms to yield biological systems that recapitulate normal GI tissue architecture and biology. Learning objectives include:

1 – To understand how recent advances in the primary cell culture of stem cells from human GI organs synergizes with innovative, engineered platforms to yield biological systems that recapitulate GI tissue architecture and biology.

2 – To explore how these novel human culture systems, including co-cultures with various cell types, can be exploited to study cell biology, organ development, and GI disease pathophysiology.

3 – To discuss opportunities for scientific collaboration between GI physicians, cell biologists and physiologists, developmental biologists, and bioengineers.
To facilitate the development and adoption of novel culture systems and innovative platforms by GI disease investigators.

4 – To generate a conference summary with recommendations to enhance the development of GI organoids and engineered GI organ systems for research and discovery applications.

5 – To generate a conference summary with recommendations to enhance the development of GI organoids and engineered GI organ systems for research and discovery applications.
