Strike for Black Lives

Copy of #shutDownSTEM

Last week, ASCB leadership pledged that “We must do better and look at our own practices and culture to do more to combat systemic racism.” Today, the ASCB Council is meeting and will begin the development of a plan to turn this pledge into action.

This Wednesday, June 10th, there is a movement to #ShutDownSTEM,  which is a day “for white and non-Black People of Color (NBPOC) to not only educate themselves but to define a detailed plan of action to carry forward.”  I will be working with ASCB staff to review our current practices, identify areas of weakness, and further develop the action plan for the Society. I call upon you and your institutions to pause your normal work to learn, to reflect, and to plan the actions you will take to eradicate anti-Black racism in academia and STEM. #Strike4BlackLives
