Joo Yong Sim, Jim Nelson, Beth Pruitt, and colleagues investigated the mechanics of cell–cell and cell–extracellular matrix adhesions during cell shape changes in embryonic development and tissue homoeostasis. They found that cells maintained constant forces through extracellular matrix adhesions and regulated total forces relative to shape. Published in MBoC.
