Hema Saranya Ilamathi recently finished her Ph.D. in the field of Cellular and Molecular Biology at the University of Quebec in Trois-Rivieres, Canada and continues as a post-Doc.  She is an active member of ASCB-COMPASS since January 2022. In addition to her passion for research, she is actively engaged in scientific communication with the public.

Mike Morrison, User Experience (UX) designer, Researchable

Mike Morrison is a User Experience (UX) designer with a Ph.D. in Work Psychology. He’s trying to bring User Experience design principles from the tech industry to science to help spread knowledge and information faster among scientists. He’s most known for creating the viral #betterposter cartoons, and now he’s working with other science communicators to bring more effective and accessible designs to every area of science.

 

Susi Varvayanis, Executive Director, Cornell University,  Graduate School’s Careers Beyond Academia

Susi Varvayanis is currently Executive Director for Cornell University Graduate School’s Careers Beyond Academia, an initiative that empowers graduate students and postdocs across all disciplines to flexibly explore and test drive career options for best fit. One of her passions is to improve research communication to varied audiences for better understanding, through skill-building workshops. Her current higher education research disseminates best practices in experiential learning to ensure alignment of skills, experiences, and aspirations with employer needs.

After her BA in Biological Sciences and French from Mount Holyoke College, Susi earned a Master’s in Microbiology & Immunology from Georgetown University. Her career has spanned several sectors in the US and abroad, from teaching to basic science research, core facility management, workforce, and economic development, industry relations, entrepreneurial support, and administration
