ASCB’s Public Information Committee (PIC) will have a new Chair in 2017. The ASCB Council has chosen Lee Ligon of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in Troy, NY, to take over PIC from Simon Atkinson who has served as PIC Chair since 2011. Ligon has been extremely active with PIC since 2009 as an associate, a regular member, and most recently ex officio while on leave from RPI as an AAAS Science and Technology Policy Fellow in Washington, DC, with the U.S. Agency for International Development.

In her application to become PIC Chair, Ligon wrote, “I feel very strongly that one of the most important skills we as scientists must develop in ourselves and in our trainees is the ability to communicate the importance of our work, but also the wonder and beauty of it, to a wide audience.”
