Five reasons to apply for a COMPASS Outreach grant

The American Society for Cell Biology (ASCB) COMPASS Outreach Grants program is a funding opportunity for individuals interested in promoting awareness of cell biology to a broader audience. COMPASS stands for ASCB’s Committee for Postdocs and Students. These grants support the development of innovative educational and outreach initiatives that will help to increase public understanding of cell biology and its importance in scientific research and everyday life.

Active ASCB members are eligible to apply, with priority given to student and postdoc members. The grants are open to a wide range of applicants, including educators, scientists, science writers, and others interested in promoting the study of cell biology. The grants provide funding to support the development and implementation of outreach activities, such as workshops, seminars, lectures, and other educational events.

Here are five reasons why you might want to consider applying for a COMPASS Outreach Grant:

  1. Funding: The COMPASS Outreach Grants program supports developing and implementing educational and outreach initiatives in cell biology. Funds can cover your outreach project’s materials, supplies, and other expenses. Recipients receive up to $1,000.
  2. Visibility: By applying for a COMPASS Outreach Grant, you can increase the visibility of your outreach project and gain recognition for your efforts to promote cell biology to a broader audience.
  3. Professional development: Participating in outreach activities can be a valuable professional development opportunity. It allows you to hone your communication and outreach skills and learn more about the latest advances in cell biology.
  4. Networking: Through the COMPASS Outreach Grants program, you can connect with other professionals interested in promoting cell biology and build a network of colleagues who share your passion for outreach and education.
  5. Impact: By participating in outreach activities, you have the opportunity to make a positive impact on the public’s understanding and appreciation of cell biology. Science outreach can be a rewarding experience and can help to inspire the next generation of scientists.

The upcoming deadlines for COMPASS outreach grants are May 26 and September 8, 2023.
