The LGBTQ+ Ally Session is the complement to the LGBTQ+ Diversity session at the 2020 meeting. It is designed to expand the support network for underrepresented groups by engaging, encouraging, and educating allies for LGBTQ+ scientists as part of a broader goal of increasing diversity and improving opportunities for LGBTQ+ scientists. As demonstrated by the interest in meeting attendees placing rainbow “ally” stickers on their badge in previous conferences, we anticipate great interest in an ally session.
Learning Objectives:
- Attendees will learn about the challenges experienced by LGBTQ+ scientists.
- Attendees will receive training that will help them to be more inclusive and considerate of
these challenges. - Attendees will become empowered as allies to better support their colleagues and foster a diverse, representative scientific workforce.
Target Audience: All ASCB members (regular, students, postdocs, educators, policymakers) that wish to create a more inclusive, supportive environment for LGBTQ+ scientists.
Sponsored By: LGBTQ+ Committee
