Traveling by Air

San Diego International Airport (SAN) is located approximately three miles from the San Diego Convention Center. Travel time between the airport and downtown hotels is typically 10 to 15 minutes by taxi, rideshare, or shuttle, depending on traffic. Check with your hotel directly to confirm whether airport transportation is available. 

The first phase of the new Terminal 1 opened in September 2025, with additional construction and roadway improvements continuing through 2028. Travelers should allow extra time when traveling to and from the airport and follow posted signs for terminal access. View current airport construction information. 

Picking Up Arriving Passengers 

Drivers waiting for arriving passengers can use the airport’s free Cell Phone Lot at 2311 McCain Road, near Terminal 2. The lot has a one-hour time limit. Follow airport signage and check the SAN parking information page for current details. 

Public Transit 

MTS offers bus and trolley service throughout San Diego. Route 992 provides direct service between San Diego International Airport and downtown, with a stop near Santa Fe Depot. Use the MTS Trip Planner to find the best route for your trip. 

Taxi and Rideshare 

Taxis, Uber, and Lyft are available throughout San Diego. At the airport, follow signs from baggage claim to the designated Transportation Plaza for taxi and rideshare pickup. Before entering a rideshare vehicle, confirm that the license plate and driver information match the details shown in the app.

FRED: Free Ride Everywhere Downtown 

FRED is a free, on-demand shuttle service operating within downtown San Diego. Rides are provided in electric, open-air vehicles and can be requested through the Ride Circuit app. 

Service hours and wait times vary, so attendees should check availability before relying on FRED for time-sensitive travel. View the service area, current hours, and app information.

The San Diego Convention Center operates an underground parking garage with an entrance on Harbor Drive. Parking rates vary based on nearby events and are set by ACE Parking. Payment is required upon entry, and there are no in-and-out privileges. Overnight and RV parking are not permitted. 

Additional parking is available at the Hilton San Diego Bayfront garage and other nearby lots and garages throughout downtown San Diego. Metered street parking may also be available. Rates, hours, and time limits vary, so always check posted signs before leaving your vehicle.
