ASCB needs your face, your voice, and your creativity to show Congress that basic research has a human dimension. We want a group portrait of you and your labmates to share during our science advocacy days on the Hill and with our Facebook followers. And #WeAreResearch is making this a contest or rather two contests, with prizes—some for you but all for the good of American science and health.
At your next lab meeting or outing, grab your smartphone and capture the whole crew in pixels. The contest part, though, is to make it creative. We want you to look serious but not solemn, capable of great things but not humorless, geeky but dapper. So think about matching t-shirts or clever messages. Show us and show Congress that basic research comes from the imagination of individuals, who need to eat. Show them that “We Are Research.”
The top three most creative photos will win a catered lunch for the lab ($200 for first prize, $100 each for two runner-ups). Submit your photos by October 11 by clicking here.
ASCB also wants researchers to come to Washington, DC, in person to advocate for science during ASCB’s Hill Day on May 30, 2014. Since we can’t cover the costs for your entire lab (sorry) we’ve added a contest for individuals. Become a “We Are Research” captain.
Any ASCB member can sign up as a regional captain, soliciting photo entries from other labs in your area. If you’re the most persistent, most persuasive, and best organized captain who can gather up the greatest number of photos, than you are precisely the sort of person we want to talk to Congress. We’ll bring you, all expenses-paid, to Washington, DC, for an ASCB Hill Day. The two runner-up captains will win complimentary registration to the 2013 Annual Meeting in New Orleans plus coveted ASCB merchandise.
Sign up to be a regional captain by August 30 by clicking here.
Brownie points will be awarded for Tweeting photos to ASCB with hashtag #WeAreResearch.
