ASCB Donates CellScopes
to New Orleans Schools
Two teachers and two schools in New Orleans will share the classroom set
of 10 CellScopes and iPads that ASCB members are generously donating.
Jillian Richard teaches seventh grade life science at Stella Worley Middle
School in Westwego, LA. A 23-year-old graduate from The College of
New Jersey, she moved to New Orleans about a year and a half ago. Noted
Richard, “The minute I shared the news about the microscopes with them,
a look of literally pure joy spread across their faces…What else could I ask
for? These microscopes will provide an opportunity for more engaging,
hands-on lessons that will take student learning to an even higher level.”
Kevin Kinross is a second-year teacher for Teach for America at Arthur
Ashe Charter School, where he teaches sixth-, seventh-, and eighth-grade
science. He also coaches football and baseball for the school. Arthur Ashe
Charter School is part of a network of charter schools operated by FirstLine
Schools. Its mission is to prepare each and every scholar to become an
independent learner and help him or her become college-ready.
Richard and Kinross, joined by some of their students and parents, will
be presented the CellScopes at the Annual Meeting on Saturday, December
14 just before the Presidential Keynotes begin.
If you haven’t donated yet, it’s not too late. Donations are still being
accepted at
