Why You Should Choose an Official Hotel

Each year, Annual Meeting attendees are encouraged to make their hotel reservations with the ASCB's official Housing Bureau, through the Society's website. This group of hotels is called a "housing block." Reservations, at a discounted rate, for any hotel in the ASCB's housing block can be made either online or with one phone call. This year, the official Housing Bureau, onPeak, will handle all hotel reservations.

Why Is It Important to Use the Housing Block?

ASCB has contracted for discounted nightly rates for rooms and added-value incentives at various hotels within the housing block. Part of the contract includes guarantees for attendees in the event of overbooking, construction, or problems with a room.

If, for example, a hotel within the block overbooks, an attendee who used the official Housing Bureau (onPeak) to secure the room will be guaranteed a room at another hotel of like standard. If an attendee secures a room through another source, the hotel is under no contractual obligation to provide compensation in the case of overbooking and will always move the outside-the-block attendee over one who booked within the block. The Housing Bureau (onPeak) immediately takes care of problems—including billing—that arise for attendees who have booked through this service. Attendees can only secure these discounted room rates by making a hotel reservation through the official ASCB Housing Company onPeak.

Filling a room block is important to the ASCB because it provides a "report card" on the Society's meeting sites. By establishing a history of always filling the room block, the Society secures both competitive room rates and larger blocks of rooms in subsequent cities. This is why we appreciate attendees securing hotel rooms through the designated Housing Bureau.
