Interested in a leadership role at ASCB?

At the 2012 Annual Meeting, the ASCB Council voted to create a new committee consisting of students and postdocs, and we are now looking for applicants to lead and to become members of this committee.
This new committee, still to be named, will replace the Subcommittee on Professional Training and will be chartered with two broad goals:

  • Serve as the liaison to the ASCB Council, providing ideas for and implementation of initiatives related to professional development and training. The committee will work closely with the ASCB office and other relevant ASCB committees such as the Education, Public Information, and Public Policy Committees.
  • Serve as a network of scientists who will provide authoritative scientific content for various Society publications. You will be offered significant opportunities for visibility by authoring content for the soon-to-be revamped website, newsletter, and other ASCB publications.

The committee will be led by one graduate student and one postdoctoral fellow, who will participate in all Council activities, such as phone calls and two in-person meetings per year. The appointment of chairs for the committee is for one year, with a possible renewable term and all expenses paid. Chairs and members of this new committee will have highly visible year-round
As with all ASCB committees, the leadership and membership of the new committee will be reviewed and approved by members of the ASCB Executive Committee.
