Graduate Student Travel Award

Award Overview:
Graduate Student Travel Awards are available to graduate students at any stage of study and from any country to cover expenses for transportation (including air fare, train fare, personal or rental car, taxi fare, etc.). To qualify for a travel award, an applicant must be an ASCB member or have recently submitted an application for ASCB membership. The maximum award is US$300 for students in the United States and US$400 for students in other countries. The ASCB Education Committee will select the award winners on the basis of scientific merit, the stage of the applicant's career, and financial need. The proximity of the applicant's institution from San Francisco will be considered when setting the award amount. Individuals who have received a previous ASCB Predoctoral Student Travel Award are not eligible to apply.

Submit a Graduate Student Travel Award

Steps To Apply:

  1. Submit Abstract
    To qualify for consideration for a Graduate Student Travel Award, abstracts must be submitted to the Annual Meeting through the regular abstract submission process. Applicants must be the first author on a submitted abstract. Once you successfully complete your abstract submission, you will receive a confirmation email with your abstract control number. The number will need to be entered on this award application.
  2. Complete and Submit This Application
    Provide your contact information, answer questions about yourself, and enter your abstract control number (see Step 1). Each applicant must complete this application separately.
  3. Send Letter of Recommendation
    A letter of recommendation from the principal investigator/advisor must be submitted with this travel award application. Address the letter of support to "Graduate Student Travel Award Review Committee." The letter should address the 1) scientific merit of the student's work, 2) how the meeting attendance will benefit the student's professional development, and 3) the student's need for financial assistance to attend the meeting.

How To Send Your Letter of Recommendation:

Deadline and Disposition Notification:
The application deadline is September 4, 2012. A completed application includes the application form, abstract control number, and letter of recommendation.
