Conversations with Cell Biologists - Sandra Schmid

Sandra Schmid is Chair of the Department of Cell Biology at the Scripps Research Institute in La Jolla, California. She is the former Editor-in-Chief of the ASCB’s journal, Molecular Biology of the Cell, and co-founder of the journal, Traffic.

Odd facts about Sandra Schmid: With a doctorate 
in Biochemistry from Stanford and a postdoctoral fellowship in Cell Biology at Yale, Schmid recently 
went back to school, earning a Master’s in Executive Leadership from the University of San Diego. Schmid and her husband (and fellow Scripps biologist) Bill Balch are fervent RVers, spending many summers with their two kids on board, touring the national parks.
