In order to keep our scientific community strong in times of scarcity of funding, we as cell biologists need to outreach to society to (1) justify the funding we received mostly from government; and (2) stimulate better funding. Another way to keep our scientific community strong is to take care of the future generation of scientists by outreaching to students is highly important. The outreach subcommittee was created to create a link between young cell biologists and society. The outreach subcommittee offers Outreach Grants to our members who would like funds to engage in outreach activities. The outreach subcommittee also runs the Share Your Science Video Contest.
This sucommittee is also involved in promoting a strong and well-trained scientific workforce through social interactions among ASCB members. To achieve these goals we organize the first time attendee "buddy program" at the Annual Meeting as well as networking events at the meeting.
