ASCB Election: Murray, Weissman Run for ASCB President

Slate Includes Candidates for Secretary and Council; Treasurer Unopposed

The two nominees for ASCB President-Elect are Andrew Murray, Harvard University, and Jonathan Weissman, University of California, San Francisco/HHMI. The elected candidate will serve on the Society’s Executive Committee as President-Elect in 2018, ASCB President in 2019, and Past President in 2020.

Two candidates are running for Secretary, A. Malcolm Campbell, Davidson College, and Kerry S. Bloom, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Treasurer Gary J. Gorbsky is running unopposed for a second term.
Eight candidates are running for four Council seats. As permitted by the ASCB Bylaws, the ballot has been segmented to ensure representation from industry. The two industry nominees will run against each other for one seat on Council. The top three vote recipients of the other six Council nominees will be elected according to traditional election procedures. All who are elected will start three-year terms beginning on January 1, 2018.

ASCB emailed a link to the Society’s electronic ballot and candidate biographies to regular, postdoc, graduate student, educator, and emeritus members on April 3. The election will close on April 30, and results will be announced in the June issue of the ASCB Newsletter. Please contact the ASCB if you did not receive the email.
